I copied a 10G test file bunch of times using the Host Client - from Chrome browser, no proxy, no firewall between browser and the host - but over a router. I have a similar setup - vSphere 8.0 U1 running on Dell R6525, using the latest driver pack (single image LCM updating). I think once the transfer starts, you're already past any certificate issue.
